Timing: What kind of lead time is necessary to place an order?

Our designers require about 12 to 16 weeks to manufacture the dresses (and we recommend leaving about one month for alterations) so bridesmaids dresses should be ordered about 4 – 5 months out from the wedding. If needed, rush orders can sometimes be placed for an additional fee. The turnaround times and rush fees vary by designer, so it is the responsibility of the bridal party to ensure all necessary information is submitted to Hitched Maids by the Hitched suggested deadline.

All bridesmaids’ dresses must be paid in full before an order can be placed. Hitched Maids cannot place the bridesmaids’ dress order with the designer until all necessary forms have been submitted by all members of the bridal party.

Sizing: How do I choose a size?

Each of our bridesmaid designers has a different size chart. It is critical that each bridesmaid use the designer’s specific size chart to pick her dress size. The size selected for the dress is a standard size per the designer’s size chart and is not made to your measurements. Because the dresses are not made to measure, alterations should be expected once the dress is received.

To order a bridesmaid dress, you will need to know your bust, waist, and hip measurement. Size is determined by the largest measurement; therefore, alterations are almost always required and they are not included in the price of the dress. When looking at the size chart, we recommend choosing a larger size if your measurements fall between two sizes. It is much easier to take a garment in, than to let it out. Special exceptions can sometimes be made for a bridesmaid who is either pregnant or whose size is not listed on the size chart provided – please contact Hitched Maids for further information.

When taking measurements, use this as a guide:

Bust: taken at the fullest part of your bust, with your arms at your sides
Natural Waist: taken at the smallest part of your waist (often a few inches above your belly button)
Hip: taken at the widest place on your hips (including your butt!)

What if I’m pregnant or will have just had a baby before the wedding?
 A few of our designers offer coordinating maternity styles. For others, we can suggest styles that have worked in the past for bridesmaids in varying stages of pregnancy. Please contact Hitched Maids to find out more on ordering timing and sizing if you are expecting.

Payment: How do I pay for my bridesmaids dress?

Bridesmaids can pay for their dresses in person or by faxing or emailing a Credit Card Authorization Form(Click Here) to Hitched Maids. Hitched Maids cannot guarantee that credit cards will be charged the day or week that the forms are faxed. In some cases, individual orders may not be charged until the entire order is ready to be placed.

Alterations: Will I need alterations once I receive my dress?

Yes, alterations are always a part of the bridesmaids dress buying process – so keep that in mind when ordering your dress. In almost all cases you will need some tailoring to make it fit you perfectly. Each designer expects that alterations will take place on their dress and they have constructed the dresses with seams that allow you to do so. Hitched Maids does not offer alterations for bridesmaids dresses. If you live locally, we are happy to provide recommendations in the area..

Shipping: I don’t live in DC, how can I receive my dress

All gowns and merchandise are first sent to Hitched Maids for quality inspection. If a bridesmaid would like to pick her dress up here in the store, she is welcome to do so. Alternatively, dresses can be sent directly to the bridesmaid using a trackable system via UPS or Federal Express. Shipped packages will require a signature upon delivery, unless otherwise noted on the form above. Shipping is $25 per dress. We do not ship internationally. Please call for rates if shipping to Alaska or Hawaiii.

Please Note: We are required to charge 6% sales tax on dresses that are picked up at Hitched Maids.  Bridesmaids that live outside the District of Columbia can have the dress shipped for the $25 fee described above and will not pay the 6% sales tax. Dresses shipped within the District of Columbia will be charged 6% sales tax and $25 for shipping.  If you change your mind after you order, and choose not to pick up your dress at Hitched Maids, we are happy to ship the dress to you for the $25 shipping fee, but cannot refund your sales tax.  Likewise, if you choose to change your order by picking up your dress instead of having it shipped, we can accommodate the change, but cannot refund the shipping
